Genesis 3 records Adam and Eve hearing the sound of the Lord walking in the garden. Instead of running toward Him, they hid.

How do people move from walking with God to negotiating with a snake? They lose awe.

The awe of God is the fear of the Lord. It is not terror. It is a holy reverence that resets our inner compass. Where awe is present, boundaries settle. Where awe fades, boundaries shift and compromise begins to sound reasonable.

Why Awe Matters

Awe presets boundaries.

The fear of the Lord produces purity and wisdom. We stop asking what we can get away with and start asking what pleases Him.

Awe clarifies identity.
You are made in His image. Romans 8 says we are being formed into the image of Christ. His image grants access to His Kingdom. When you look like the Son, you walk in what the Son has already opened.

Awe precedes the supernatural.
In John 11, Jesus speaks a word before Lazarus reaches the tomb. The Word goes ahead of the problem. When Mary bows in worship, resurrection life moves. When rebellion bows, the miraculous activates.

Activity is not proximity.
Martha was busy. Mary chose His feet. Busyness cannot replace closeness.

Awe matures love.
Peter’s journey moved from “Depart from me” to jumping into the water to reach Jesus. Perfect love removes fear and draws us closer.

What Steals Awe

  • Inferior conversations that question God’s goodness
  • Offense with people that becomes accusation against God
  • Trusting feelings above the Holy Spirit
  • Forgetting that we are loved first, then empowered to love

How To Get Your Awe Back

Choose a place.
Create a consistent space in your home where you meet with God.

Choose a time.
Set a daily appointment with Him.

Keep the appointment.
Guard it like your life depends on it. Because it does.

Shut the serpent down.

End conversations that question God’s character. Adam and Eve should never have entertained the snake.

Cast to the right side.
Like Peter, do it God’s way. Obedience opens abundance. Toil ends where trust begins.
