The Name Above All Names:
How to Live in the Authority of Jesus

There are many names that carry influence in the world. Some names open doors. Some names carry status. Some names command attention. Yet above every earthly name stands one name that carries eternal authority, unmatched power, and limitless victory: the name of Jesus.

The Bible declares in Philippians 2 that God highly exalted Jesus and gave Him the name above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.

This is not simply a statement about a word. It is a declaration about a position.

When we speak the name of Jesus, we are not merely repeating a religious phrase. We are calling upon the One who conquered death, defeated sin, overcame darkness, and now sits enthroned above every principality, power, kingdom, and authority.

The name of Jesus carries the authority of the Person behind it.

The Name Represents the Person

A name is always connected to a person.

When someone mentions your name, they are referring to everything connected to you. Your character, reputation, relationships, and authority are all attached to your name.

The same is true when we speak the name of Jesus.

His healing is attached to His name.

His provision is attached to His name.

His freedom is attached to His name.

His deliverance is attached to His name.

His victory is attached to His name.

This is why Scripture repeatedly points believers back to Jesus. Everything we need is found in Him.

Acts 4:12 reminds us:

“There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

The world offers many solutions, philosophies, and alternatives, but there is only one name that can truly save, restore, and transform a life.

The Difference Between Pressing and Touching

One of the most remarkable stories in Scripture is the account of the woman with the issue of blood.

For twelve years she suffered. For twelve years she searched for answers. For twelve years she spent everything she had trying to find healing.

Then she heard that Jesus was passing by.

The crowd surrounded Him. People were pressing against Him from every direction. Yet Jesus suddenly stopped and asked a surprising question:

“Who touched Me?”

The disciples were confused. Everyone was touching Him.

But Jesus knew the difference.

The crowd was pressing.

One woman was reaching.

The crowd was physically close.

One woman was connected by faith.

The crowd saw a man.

She recognised the Messiah.

Many people can be near the things of God without ever truly connecting with Him by faith.

Church attendance alone does not change lives.

Religious activity alone does not transform hearts.

Faith reaches beyond the crowd and makes a demand on God’s promise.

The woman believed that if she could simply touch the hem of His garment, she would be healed.

And she was.

Not because of superstition.

Not because of tradition.

But because she recognised who He was and what He carried.

Reaching for the Covenant

The hem of Jesus’ garment was significant.

According to Jewish tradition and Old Testament instruction, the tassels on a rabbi’s garment served as reminders of God’s covenant promises.

The prophet Malachi had already prophesied that healing would be found in the Messiah.

This woman was not merely reaching for a piece of fabric.

She was reaching for the promise of God.

She was reaching for covenant.

She was reaching for prophecy.

She was reaching for the One who fulfilled every promise God had ever made.

The same invitation exists for believers today.

When circumstances seem impossible, reach for the promise.

When fear tries to overwhelm you, reach for the promise.

When delay makes you want to quit, reach for the promise.

God’s Word remains trustworthy even when circumstances seem contrary.

Three Things That Stop People from Reaching

The story of the woman with the issue of blood reveals three obstacles that often prevent people from stepping into God’s best.

1. Fear of People

The crowd could have stopped her.

Public opinion could have stopped her.

The opinions of others often become one of the greatest barriers to faith.

Yet breakthrough frequently begins when we stop worrying about what people think and start focusing on what God has said.

2. Lack of Perseverance

Twelve years is a long time to wait.

Many people would have given up long before then.

Yet perseverance remains one of the greatest keys to seeing God’s promises fulfilled.

Romans teaches us that perseverance produces character, character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint.

Faith keeps moving even when answers seem delayed.

3. Forgetting to Testify

After healing the woman, Jesus called her forward to publicly share what had happened.

Why?

Because testimony strengthens faith.

Many believers quickly forget what God has already done.

We focus on current problems while ignoring past victories.

Yet Scripture says that God’s testimonies become counsellors in our lives.

Every breakthrough becomes evidence that God is faithful.

Every answered prayer becomes proof that He still moves.

Every miracle becomes a reminder that He can do it again.

What Has God Put in Your Hands?

One of the most powerful truths in Scripture is that God often uses ordinary things to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

Moses had a staff.

David had a sling.

Joseph had a dream.

Rahab had a scarlet cord.

The disciples had five loaves and two fish.

What has God placed in your hands?

Many people overlook what God has already given them because it appears ordinary.

Yet God specialises in taking ordinary people, ordinary gifts, and ordinary opportunities and using them for extraordinary purposes.

The question is not whether God has given you something.

The question is whether you are willing to place it in His hands.

Reach Out Again

Perhaps you have been disappointed.

Perhaps you have been waiting.

Perhaps you have been discouraged by delay.

The message of the Gospel remains unchanged.

Reach out again.

Reach beyond fear.

Reach beyond disappointment.

Reach beyond what people are saying.

Reach beyond what circumstances are telling you.

Reach for the promise of God.

Reach for the Word of God.

Reach for Jesus.

The same Jesus who healed the woman with the issue of blood still heals today.

The same Jesus who restored lives still restores today.

The same Jesus who opened impossible doors still opens impossible doors today.

His name is still above every challenge.

His name is still above every diagnosis.

His name is still above every limitation.

His name is still above every fear.

His name is still above every obstacle.

And for those who will reach out in faith, His power is still available.

The Name above all names has not lost its authority.

Trust Him.

Believe Him.

Reach out again.
