The Process of Deliverance

The first thing that must be understood is that demons almost always have legal grounds in a person’s life, usually rooted in either the person’s sins, or the sins of their ancestors (the breaking of generational curses is only valid for those who are under the new covenant). Before you can successfully cast a demon out of them, that legal right must first be broken or removed.

Matthew 12:43-45, “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”

The process of deliverance often consists of three main parts:

1. Removing legal rights

Legal grounds are things in our lives that have given or are giving the demons the ‘permission’ to enter and remain in our lives.. Things like unforgiveness (Matthew 18:23-35), unconfessed sins (1 John 1:9), soul ties (1 Corinthians 6:16), etc. can give demons the ‘permission’ to influence and gain power over us.

Before demons can be cast out, it is important to address and remove these legal rights. Failing to remove legal rights can hold up deliverance very easily.

2. Tearing down strongholds

2 Corinthians 10:4-5, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled”.

“Casting down arguments”: The word “arguments” is the Greek word logismos and it gives us the idea or translation to that what seems logical or truthful. This simply means Satan understands that for him to activate his mind games he must get you to a place of argument or logical thinking so that you can take his bait, this is called deception (dolios). The power of the deception lies in the fact that there is some truth involved. The person embeds the lie in his thinking patterns because the lie seems true.

The Bible describes this as making that argument a “HIGH THING” in your mind. A “high thing”is where the thought or argument has started to take root and now it slowly and progressively elevates itself in your life. The key is in the word “exalts”. This word “exalts” emphatically means that you don’t wake up with this thinking, but it slowly and progressively took root in your heart and it is on its way to displace the knowledge of God in your life.

So it starts with:

– An entry (Eph. 4:27).

– Then an “argument” in which you get hooked (dolios).

– Then it is on its way to becoming a “high thing.”

– That “exalts” itself against the knowledge of God.

The knowledge of God is the Word of God in your life. This “high thing” exalts itself against the Word of God in your life. It comes to seize, and it comes to destroy.

3. Casting out the remaining demons

Once legal rights have been removed and strongholds have been torn down, remaining demons can be cast out. Please note that deliverance can occur in an instance through the power of God, but often times due to the effect in the soul realm the enemy’s oppression has been deeply embedded and therefore it would be necessary in some instances to first remove the legal rights and strongholds before that person can experience total freedom.

Matthew 12:28, “But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.”

When the Spirit of the Lord comes into a person’s life, all other spirits must go and freedom is guaranteed!
